Accidental Damage, Theft & Fire
Material damage cover may respond to accidental damage, theft, fire, malicious damage, storm and other insured events, subject to the policy wording.

Transit & Recovery
Options may be available for equipment while being transported, including recovery, removal and reasonable associated costs after an insured event.
Road Risk & Liability
Registered plant travelling on public roads may require road-risk liability, while public and products liability can address third-party injury or property damage exposures.

PLANT AND MACHINERY INSURANCE FAQs
What is plant and machinery insurance?
Plant and machinery insurance can help protect commercial equipment against accidental damage, theft, fire, collision and other insured events. Depending on the policy, it may also include hired-in plant, transit, road-risk liability, breakdown, recovery and loss-of-use options.
What types of plant and equipment can be insured?
Cover can be considered for excavators, loaders, bobcats, skid steers, cranes, forklifts, telehandlers, graders, rollers, compressors, generators, drilling equipment, concreting equipment, farming machinery and other declared commercial plant.
Can I insure hired-in plant and machinery?
Yes, subject to insurer acceptance and the hire agreement. Hired-in plant cover is designed to address the hirer’s responsibility for damage or theft while equipment is in their care, custody and control. The hire period, equipment value and use must be disclosed.
Do I need road risk and public liability cover?
Plant operating or travelling on public roads may need road-risk or third-party property-damage liability cover. Public and products liability can also be relevant where plant operations may cause injury or damage to third-party property. Compulsory Third Party insurance does not replace these covers.
Can plant insurance cover breakdown or downtime?
Some policies can include mechanical breakdown, consequential loss, downtime or replacement-hire extensions. These are not automatic and may be subject to separate limits, waiting periods, exclusions and insurer conditions. Regular maintenance and accurate equipment values are important.
