ABS INSURANCE BROKERS
Glen Sim is the Business Development Manager at ABS Insurance Brokers, bringing more than 35 years of practical experience across the building and construction industry.
A carpenter by trade and a licensed builder, Glen began his career as an apprentice carpenter in 1990 before progressing through construction, project coordination and building consultancy roles. With 35 years of hands-on experience, he has developed into a master builder in the practical sense—bringing deep trade knowledge, construction judgment and a clear understanding of how quality building work should be delivered. He is also the Founder and Managing Director of Awesim Building Consultants, an independent building consultancy supporting homeowners, builders, solicitors, developers, strata managers and insurers across New South Wales.
As a Building Consultant, Glen provides litigation reports and independent expert-witness services for building-dispute matters before NCAT and the Supreme Court, helping parties understand the technical issues, defects, compliance concerns and rectification requirements involved in complex construction disputes.
Glen’s experience spans residential, commercial and remedial construction, building defects, waterproofing, compliance, construction quality, project delivery and dispute resolution. This practical background gives him a detailed understanding of how buildings and construction projects are planned, priced, built, repaired and reconstructed—and where risks can arise at each stage.
Within ABS Insurance Brokers, Glen uses that construction knowledge to help builders, contractors, developers and business owners identify the risks that matter to their operations. He understands the importance of asking the right questions around public liability, contract works, professional indemnity, builders warranty, plant and machinery, commercial vehicles, fleet, property and other business insurance requirements.
His role is to help clients explain their business activities, projects, assets and exposures clearly, so the ABS team can assess their needs and identify suitable insurance options. Glen’s construction experience is particularly valuable when a business involves complex building work, subcontractors, plant, high-value equipment, project sites, handovers, defects, rectification or reconstruction following an insured event.
Known for his practical communication style, technical understanding and solution-focused approach, Glen helps bridge the gap between construction language and insurance risk discussions. He is committed to building long-term relationships and helping clients feel confident that their insurance conversations reflect the way their business actually operates.
Glen continues to lead Awesim Building Consultants while contributing his industry knowledge and business-development experience to the growth of ABS Insurance Brokers. Together, these roles give him a unique perspective on the challenges faced by builders, contractors and Australian businesses, and the importance of protecting people, projects, property and livelihoods.
